Tysie   mcdowell

FOUNDER  &  Principal consultant

Tysie McDowell has been working in the field of education for over twenty years. She graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in Elementary Education and a minor in African World Studies. Tysie taught in Des Moines, Iowa before moving to Kansas City.   She taught in the KCPS district and in charter schools before founding Nia Educational Consulting, becoming an adjunct professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and earning a Masters in School Administration from Baker University.  Additionally, Tysie has been trained at the Teacher’s College Reading and Writing Institute at Columbia University.  Tysie has consulted for numerous schools in Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Iowa.  She’s helped schools align curriculum to state standards, developed teacher-parent positive communication programs, conducted parenting classes, created Reader's and Writer's Workshop curriculum calendars and units of study, developed student assessments, and conducted classroom observations and demonstrations.  In 2012, Tysie co-founded Crossroads Academy of Kansas City, now Crossroads Charter Schools.  The charter district has grown to include two elementary buildings and a high school. Tysie is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the Missouri Foster Care and Adoption Association.  She serves on the board of To The World, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of children here and abroad and serves on the board of Global and Multicultural Education (GAME), a non-profit membership organization with the primary purpose of building grassroots public support in promoting international and intercultural understanding, educating for diversity, global citizenship, human rights, the environment, and peace.

Monica Nance

Literacy   consultant

Monica Nance, has been working in the field of education for over twenty years. She has taught in various urban and E.S.L. classrooms and has held multiple positions such as content curriculum writer and literacy coach.  Ms. Nance has led many workshops on various topics such as:  Read Alouds and Their Impact on Student Learning, The Architecture of Conferring, and Understanding Reader’s Workshop in the Middle School.  She has been a presenter at the National School Association’s Middle Level Essentials Conference and an adjunct professor at Northwest Missouri State University.  Ms. Nance served as the Curriculum Coordinator for Communication Arts for the Kansas City, Missouri School District.

Bonnie Stalder

Math Consultant

Bonnie Stalder has been working in the field of education for over twenty years.  She worked with the state of Missouri in writing and revising MAP assessment questions and scoring the 4th grade Mathematics MAP test.  Mrs. Stalder has been a frequent presenter for the KCATM Winter Conference in Kansas City, for the Basic School Summer Institutes, and the Investigations Users Conferences.  She has also spent much time modeling lessons for teachers and conducting classroom observations, as well as collaboratively planning with both administrators and teachers.  Mrs. Stalder served as the Elementary Mathematics Instructional Coach for the Kansas City, Missouri School District.​

Susan Bizorik

Math   consultant

Susan Bizorik, has been working in the field of math education for over twenty-five years and is a recipient of the Presidential Award for excellence in math teaching.  She has been an adjunct instructor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Avila College, Donnelly, and St. Mary College.  She has presented at numerous local, State and National conferences. In addition to consulting, Mrs. Bizorik has served as the math coordinator of Kansas City, Missouri and is currently an Elementary Mathematics Instructional Coach in Hickman Mills School District.

Todd Gordon- 
DROPOUT PREVENTION CONSULTANT 

Todd Gordon leads our dropout prevention work.  Mr. Gordon has experience working with young adults who have dropped out of school, experienced incarceration, and dealt with various forms of trauma.  Mr. Gordon leads the curriculum writing and implementation of The Struggle Room, an interactive program that challenges students to explore their choices, behavior, response patterns, and unseen opportunities.
